NEW DELHI: Banking services at many public sector bank branches were disrupted across India on Friday after employees joined a nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions.
The unions are seeking implementation of a five-day banking week along with action on performance-linked incentives, pension-related matters and other long-pending employee demands.
Customers may face delays in branch-dependent services including cheque processing, cash transactions, KYC work, passbook updates and certain loan-related activities. Digital facilities such as UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs are expected to remain largely available.
The unions have warned of further industrial action if negotiations fail to produce a resolution, increasing the possibility of additional disruption later in September.
Public sector banks are seeing the largest impact, while many private-sector banking services continue to operate normally.
