Security and preparations intensify in New Delhi ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026.
NEW DELHI: Security has been significantly tightened across the national capital as New Delhi prepares to host the BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13.
Thousands of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed around key locations, while barricades, checkpoints and traffic diversions have affected movement across several parts of the city. Authorities have also taken steps to reduce regular traffic, including closures of schools, government offices and some businesses.
The summit will bring several major international leaders to New Delhi, including representatives from China, Russia, Iran and other members of the expanded BRICS grouping.
For residents, however, the diplomatic gathering has brought longer journeys and changing traffic routes. Authorities have advised commuters to plan trips in advance and follow official traffic advisories.
The summit comes at a significant moment for BRICS as its members discuss economic cooperation, global governance and major geopolitical challenges.
