World’s Tallest 3D-Printed Tower Built in Switzerland Without Bricks or Cement

Lifestyle Desk, New Delhi — Nestled in the picturesque village of Mulegns, Switzerland, a remarkable architectural feat has captured global attention — the Tor Alva, the world’s tallest 3D-printed tower. Rising 30 meters high, the white spiral tower is now a major tourist attraction, standing like a piece of edible art amid the lush green valleys and alpine mountains.

A Tower in a Village of Just 12 People
Though Mulegns is home to only a dozen residents, it now boasts a global marvel. The Tor Alva resembles a giant wedding cake in design, created entirely through robotic 3D printing. The project is a stunning blend of technology, sustainability, and modern design.

Key Features of Tor Alva

  • Height: Approximately 30 meters (98 feet)
  • World’s tallest load-bearing 3D-printed structure
  • Built with zero cement or bricks, entirely from layered printing
  • Features a spiral staircase leading up to a dome-like theatre
  • Seating capacity: 32 to 45 people in the theatre
  • No support beams or grids used; weight is self-supported
  • Entire structure is portable and can be relocated if needed
  • Offers breathtaking panoramic mountain views from the top

How Was It Built?
The project was led by engineers and architects from ETH Zurich, using advanced robotic 3D printing. Constructed in over 2,500 layers, it also incorporates steel rings and vertical rods for stability. The full process took around 900 hours over 5 months.

Tourism and Upcoming Events
Guided tours began on May 23, and from July onwards, the dome-theatre will host live performances. Just 80 km from Zurich, Tor Alva is perfect for travelers looking to explore something offbeat in Switzerland.
