SWA Awards 2025: Amar Singh Chamkila Leads with 8 Nominations; Panchayat 3, Gullak 4 Dominate Web Categories

The Screenwriters Association Awards (SWA) 2025 has announced its nominations, and Imtiaz Ali’s musical drama Amar Singh Chamkila has emerged as a top contender. The film, which released in 2024 and stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, has bagged eight major nominations, including Best Story, Screenplay, Dialogue, and Lyrics.

The 7th edition of the SWA Awards will take place on August 9 and will honour the most impactful stories across films, web series, and television released in 2024.

Lyricist Irshad Kamil earned praise for his work in Amar Singh Chamkila, with nominations for five songs: Baaja, Bol Mohabbat, Ishq Mitaye, Naram Kaalja, and Vida Karo.

In the Best Story and Screenplay (Film) categories, Amar Singh Chamkila competes with Berlin (Atul Sabharwal), CTRL (Avinash Sampath), Fairy Folk (Karan Gour), and Madgaon Express (Kunal Kemmu).

In Best Dialogue, nominations include Sumukhi Suresh for CTRL, Devang Tiwari and Amit Pradhan for Jo Tera Hai Woh Mera Hai, Niren Bhatt for Stree 2, and Kunal Kemmu again for Madgaon Express.

Fresh Talent in the Spotlight

The Best Debut category features a strong lineup, including Shuchi Talati for Girls Will Be Girls, produced by Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal. The film also received nominations in the Best Lyrics (TV/Web) category for Big Girls Don’t Cry (Anvitaa Dutt) and Pehli Sharam (Shashwat Sachdev).

Other debut nominees include Biplab Goswami and Sneha Desai (Laapataa Ladies) and Bodhayan Roychaudhury (Sector 36).

In music, Sagar has been nominated for Tu Hai Toh from Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor.

Web Series Dominate Digital Categories

On the OTT front, fan-favourites Panchayat Season 3 and Gullak Season 4 have led the web category with multiple nominations in Best Story, Screenplay, and Dialogue.

Other major web-series nominations in Best Screenplay and Dialogue (Web Drama) include Freedom at Midnight, Gyaarah Gyaarah, Lootere, Maharani 3, and IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.

In Best Story (Web Comedy/Musical), nominated titles include Bandish Bandits 2, Cubicles 4, and Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper. Raat Jawaan Hai and Mamla Legal Hai were also recognized in the screenplay and dialogue categories.

Music Nominations in Web and TV

In the Best Lyrics (TV/Web) category, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and A.M. Turaz are nominated for Saiyaan Hatto Jaao from Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Also nominated is Zaroori Toh Nahi from Citadel: Honey Bunny, sung by Akhil.

Composer Juno received double nominations for Asman Rootha (Panchayat 3) and Feeling Nayi Hai (Gullak 4), further showcasing the strong musical appeal of these web shows.
