Satya Nadella’s India Trip to Strengthen Microsoft’s AI and Cloud Push

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will begin a three-day visit to India on December 10, travelling to Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. During the tour, he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and other senior officials as Microsoft deepens its focus on cloud and artificial intelligence in one of its fastest-growing markets.

Nadella will start his visit in Delhi on December 10, head to Bengaluru on December 11, and wrap up in Mumbai on December 12. This continues a series of frequent India visits as the company expands its infrastructure and partnerships.

During his previous visit in January, Nadella announced a three-billion-dollar investment aimed at strengthening cloud and AI infrastructure in India and supporting nationwide skilling programmes. At the time, he highlighted India’s rapid rise as a global AI hub and reiterated Microsoft’s goal of helping the country become “AI-first.”

Microsoft has already surpassed its 2025 target by training 2.4 million people in AI skills within one year, with most trainees from smaller cities and nearly two-thirds being women. The company now aims to train ten million Indians by 2030.

The tech race in India has intensified, with Google committing fifteen billion dollars to establish a major AI centre in Visakhapatnam.

Ahead of Nadella’s arrival, Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal met Lisa Monaco, President of Microsoft Global Affairs, to discuss the company’s continued engagement in India. The meeting covered collaboration in AI innovation, digital trade, and skilling initiatives, with both sides agreeing on the need to strengthen the India–US partnership in technology and workforce development.
