CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Monitors Progress, Emphasizes Skill Development and Livelihood Support
Uttarakhand Sees a Rise in Reverse Migration
In a significant development, 2,165 individuals who had previously migrated from Uttarakhand’s villages have returned and are now engaged in self-employment across 45 development blocks. The data was presented during a review meeting of the Migration Prevention Commission chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat on Friday.
Returnees Embracing Agriculture, Tourism, and Homestays
According to the Commission’s Vice Chairman Dr. S.S. Negi, returnees are actively participating in various sectors such as agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism, horticulture, and homestays. A state-wide survey is currently underway to assess the scale and impact of this reverse migration movement.
CM Dhami Urges Creation of Platforms to Share Success Stories
CM Dhami directed officials to create platforms for these returnees to share their experiences and insights. “Their success stories can inspire others and guide the development of future government schemes,” he said. The Chief Minister emphasized the value of reverse migration in revitalizing the rural economy and curbing urban migration.
Focus on Skill Development and Women’s Empowerment
Highlighting the need for sustainable livelihoods in rural areas, the CM stressed the importance of skill development for local residents. He also called for professional training for women involved in self-help groups to enhance product branding, marketing, and pricing. “Women’s active participation will elevate Uttarakhand’s standing among the top states of India,” he added.
Simplification of Government Schemes Urged
CM Dhami instructed officials to simplify existing government schemes to make them more accessible. He also emphasized the need for better coordination among departments like planning, education, tourism, and skill development to strengthen the Migration Prevention Commission.
Key Officials Present at the Meeting
The review meeting was attended by senior officials including Infrastructure Monitoring Council Vice Chairman Vishwas Dabar, Commission members Ramprakash Panyuli, Suresh Suyal, Dinesh Rawat, and Additional Commissioner of Rural Development Rajendra Singh Rawat.
