Rajnath Singh, CM Yogi Flag Off First Batch of BrahMos Missiles Manufactured by Lucknow Unit

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday jointly flagged off the first batch of BrahMos supersonic missiles produced at the BrahMos Aerospace unit in Lucknow, marking a major milestone in India’s defence manufacturing journey.

According to an official statement, the event is a significant achievement for the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) and reinforces India’s push toward self-reliance in defence production.

The newly commissioned integration and testing facility of BrahMos Aerospace, located in Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow, successfully completed its first round of production and testing of the advanced missile system. The state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated on May 11, 2025, is equipped with cutting-edge technology for missile assembly, testing, and quality assurance before deployment by the Indian Armed Forces.

Speaking at the ceremony, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “This is the foundation of a self-reliant India. So far, we have made available over 2,500 acres of land for this purpose in six nodes. Through this, over 15,000 youth in the state have found employment.”

He also highlighted the economic impact of the project, noting that the BrahMos unit is expected to contribute significantly to the state’s revenue. “When 100 BrahMos missiles are manufactured each year, and the capacity will increase to 150 in the future, the state government will receive ₹150 to 200 crore annually through GST from these missiles,” he added.

Rajnath Singh, who represents Lucknow in Parliament, praised the collaboration between the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), BrahMos Aerospace, and the Uttar Pradesh government in achieving this milestone.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, and senior defence officials were also present at the ceremony.

The BrahMos missile, known for its precision and speed, is one of the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missiles and remains a critical asset in India’s strategic defence arsenal.
