Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Himachal Pradesh to review the extensive damage caused by recent floods and announced a relief package worth ₹1,500 crore for the state.
During his visit, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a “multi-dimensional” approach to help the hill state recover and rebuild. Officials said the assistance will focus not only on immediate relief but also on long-term rehabilitation of communities and infrastructure.
Key measures include rebuilding homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with geotagging of damaged houses to ensure accurate assessment and swift delivery of aid. Damaged national highways and local roads will be restored, while schools affected by the floods will be provided support under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, enabling them to report and geotag damages for timely relief.
The government also announced targeted assistance for farmers, particularly those who currently lack power connections. Livestock support kits will be distributed, and water conservation efforts will be strengthened through the construction of recharge structures for rainwater harvesting, aimed at improving groundwater levels and long-term water management.
In addition to immediate relief measures, provisions will be made through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The Prime Minister assured residents that the Centre would continue to extend support until Himachal Pradesh is fully back on its feet.
Earlier, inter-ministerial central teams had been dispatched to assess the scale of destruction. Their reports will form the basis for further financial and logistical assistance in the coming months.
After his Himachal visit, Prime Minister Modi is also expected to travel to Punjab, where a similar announcement of aid is likely.
