Medical services at AIIMS Patna were disrupted on Thursday as doctors began an indefinite strike. The protest started after resident doctors accused Shivhar MLA Chetan Anand of assault and threats. The incident took place on Wednesday night at the hospital’s trauma centre. According to the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), the MLA, along with his wife Dr. Ayushi Singh and armed guards, entered the hospital around 11 PM. They allegedly forced their way inside, misbehaved with staff, and threatened doctors.
In a complaint to the hospital’s medical superintendent, the RDA said that the group also assaulted security guards. Doctors are now demanding an FIR against Chetan Anand, his wife, and their guards. They have warned that emergency services may also be stopped if action is not taken.
So far, no FIR has been filed against the MLA. The RDA also blamed the AIIMS administration for not providing enough security. They said the hospital environment has become unsafe and tense for staff. In response, Chetan Anand filed a counter-complaint at Phulwari police station. He alleged that hospital staff attacked him and held him for over 30 minutes. He said he had gone to visit a patient, reportedly a family friend named Ankit Sharma.
The AIIMS administration has denied any wrongdoing by its staff and said an internal inquiry is underway. Chetan Anand is the son of former MP Anand Mohan and JDU leader Lovely Anand. The issue has triggered strong reactions from the medical community, with doctors across Bihar extending support to AIIMS Patna.
Due to the ongoing strike, outpatient services have been affected. Patients continue to face delays and uncertainty as the deadlock remains unresolved.
