NEC Releases ₹4.78 Crore to Nagaland for Key Development Projects in November

Nagaland has received ₹4.78 crore from the North Eastern Council in November to support a wide range of development initiatives, including youth and sports infrastructure, tourism-related activities and programmes aimed at preserving indigenous culture. The information was shared through an official statement from the state’s Information and Public Relations department, which noted that the funds form part of the council’s ongoing monthly support to the northeastern region.

According to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the NEC Secretariat in Shillong, a total of ₹56.22 crore was released across all eight northeastern states during November. The financial assistance is directed towards improving infrastructure, enhancing livelihood opportunities, and promoting cultural events, academic seminars, research activities and innovation-driven projects.

For Nagaland specifically, the NEC highlighted its focus on critical sectors such as infrastructure development, agriculture and allied services, cultural and heritage preservation, education, skill-based training, tourism growth, livelihood promotion and innovation-based programmes. The council reaffirmed that it remains committed to timely fund disbursal and close coordination with state governments to ensure smooth implementation of sanctioned projects.

Beyond state allocations, the NEC also released ₹14.89 crore to central agencies, cultural organisations and regional bodies to support major events, research engagements and cultural programmes across the Northeast. Several significant project interventions were recorded during the month, including community development for indigenous groups, animal feed production units, scientific pig-breeding initiatives, piggery value-chain improvement and documentation of traditional medicinal knowledge. Expansion of tele-education through smart virtual classrooms was also undertaken.

Sports infrastructure development in Manipur received support during the same period, reflecting NEC’s wider regional development approach.

The council also reported the completion of key projects in Nagaland, including rainwater reservoirs designed for fire safety and a skill training centre originally sanctioned in March 2023. The completed works include rainwater harvesting facilities at Dimapur and Khuzama, as well as infrastructure upgrades at the training centre in Chiechama. These initiatives are expected to substantially strengthen fire safety preparedness while providing structured training opportunities for young people seeking employment in fire and emergency service sectors.
