A 34-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly dragging a police constable on the bonnet of his car while attempting to flee from a checkpoint on the Bengaluru–Hosur Highway. The dramatic incident, which was captured on a dashcam by another vehicle travelling ahead, occurred near the Jujwadi checkpoint on the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border on Sunday.
Police identified the accused as Yarab Pasha, who was allegedly transporting illegal goods in a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Officers at the checkpoint attempted to stop the vehicle after suspecting that it was carrying contraband tobacco and liquor.
According to police, when officers signalled him to stop, Pasha tried to escape. During the attempt, Head Constable Rajeev Gandhi stood in front of the car to block it. However, the accused allegedly accelerated the vehicle, forcing the constable onto the bonnet while continuing to drive recklessly along the highway.
Despite heavy traffic on the busy road, the car reportedly continued moving for around 500 metres with the police officer clinging to the bonnet before the vehicle was eventually stopped. Fortunately, the constable escaped the incident without sustaining serious injuries.
Following the chase, police arrested the accused and seized the illegal goods from the vehicle. Authorities recovered approximately 390 kilograms of gutka (tobacco) along with liquor, with the total value of the confiscated items estimated at around ₹2.2 lakh.
Officials said further investigation is underway, and the accused is expected to face multiple charges, including smuggling contraband goods and endangering the life of a police officer. The dashcam footage of the incident has since surfaced online, highlighting the dangerous situation on the highway.
