Maharashtra Becomes First State To Partner With Elon Musk’s Starlink

Maharashtra has become the first Indian state to officially partner with Elon Musk’s satellite communications company, Starlink, to provide satellite-based internet services across remote and underserved regions.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the partnership on Wednesday, saying the government has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt Ltd.

The collaboration aims to deploy satellite internet connectivity for government institutions, rural communities, and public infrastructure in regions such as Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim, and Dharashiv.

“It is our honour that the company is arriving in India and partnering with Maharashtra,” Fadnavis said in a post on X.

He added that the initiative aligns with the state’s flagship Digital Maharashtra mission and complements ongoing efforts in electric vehicle adoption, coastal development, and disaster management.

With this move, Maharashtra is set to lead India in satellite-enabled digital infrastructure, taking a major step forward in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision.
