A major inheritance battle has erupted in the Delhi High Court after actor Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, filed a suit seeking their rightful share in the massive ₹30,000 crore estate of their late father, industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The former chairman of auto components giant Sona Comstar passed away suddenly on June 12, 2025, while playing polo in the United Kingdom.
In their petition, Samaira and Kiaan, represented through their mother, have accused their stepmother Priya Sachdev Kapur of forging and concealing a will in order to claim complete control over the estate. They allege that Priya initially denied the existence of any testamentary document, insisting that all of Sunjay’s assets were tied up under the R.K. Family Trust. However, more than seven weeks after his death, she presented a document dated March 21, 2025, as Sunjay’s will. According to the siblings, neither the original nor even a copy of this document has been shared with them, leading them to argue before the court that the will is “forged, fabricated, and surrounded by suspicious circumstances.”
The children are asking the court to formally recognize them as Class I legal heirs and to order a partition of their father’s assets. They claim that as heirs they are entitled to a one-fifth share each in the estate, which includes sprawling business interests, personal assets, and trust holdings. Their petition further highlights that until his sudden demise, Sunjay maintained a close bond with his children, involving them in family milestones, business discussions, and even setting up ventures in their names to secure their financial future.
The legal battle now pits the children against Priya Kapur, her minor son with Sunjay, Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur, and another individual who has been named as the executor of the disputed will. Tensions within the family are said to have escalated soon after Sunjay’s funeral on June 19 at Lodhi Cremation Ground, with the plaintiffs claiming they were subsequently restricted from accessing documents and financial details relating to the trust.
The case has quickly become one of the most high-profile inheritance disputes in recent years, not just because of the staggering value of the estate but also due to the Bollywood connection. Legal experts say the Delhi High Court will now have to carefully examine the validity of the alleged will, the authenticity of signatures and dates, and whether due process was followed in its execution.
For now, Samaira and Kiaan insist that their father had repeatedly assured them of their place in his estate and had taken steps during his lifetime to safeguard their future. With the matter now in court, the fight over Sunjay Kapur’s vast legacy has only just begun.
