Enhanced Security at Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Railway Stations, and Public Spots
Police and Intelligence on Maximum Vigilance
In response to the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan, Varanasi has been placed on high alert. Security has been tightened around key locations including the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the airport, major railway stations, and crowded areas. Senior police officials, including DIG Dr. Chinappa Shivsimpi and DCPs, are conducting foot patrols to monitor the situation and reassure the public.
Bomb Squad and Sniffer Dogs Deployed
ACP Dr. Atul Anjan Tripathi confirmed that suspected individuals in busy areas are under close surveillance. Police teams are patrolling with bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. Even during the night, security personnel remain deployed along the Ganga Ghats to prevent any potential disturbances.
Heightened Security at Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Ghats
At Kashi Vishwanath Dham, security measures have been intensified compared to normal days. ACP-led teams conducted thorough checks and patrolled the Dashashwamedh Ghat. Vehicles and individuals found in suspicious positions were interrogated. Additional police forces have been stationed at the temple premises and Ganga Aarti site, with CCTV surveillance in full operation.
Cantonment Station Requests RPSF Support
Cantonment railway station administration has requested a unit from the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) as a precautionary measure. Armed personnel currently deployed at multiple points have been instructed to remain alert and not leave their posts without prior notice. Their heightened presence was clearly visible on Thursday.
Railway Officials Review Security Preparedness
Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) Lalji Chaudhary reviewed the security arrangements at the station’s VIP lounge. He held discussions with senior RPF officials over the phone and formally requested reinforcement from RPSF to strengthen railway security. Additional vigilance measures were instructed.
Travel Cancellations to Jammu Surge
Tensions at the border are now visibly impacting travel. Over 300 passengers have canceled their reservations to Jammu and Kashmir. On Thursday alone, dozens of tickets were refunded at Varanasi Cantonment station. Notably, a tourist group canceled its entire journey.
Highest Refunds in Begumpura Express
The Begumpura Express, which departs from Varanasi to Jammu, saw the most ticket refunds. Other trains like the Himgiri Express and Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Express also had multiple cancellations. Most were advance bookings, and both counter and online ticket refunds were reported.
