The high-profile murder case of Nikki Bhati, who was allegedly set ablaze by her husband Vipin and his family, has taken a dramatic turn after her estranged sister-in-law Meenakshi came forward with serious counter-allegations against Nikki’s own family.
Meenakshi, who married Nikki’s brother Rohit in 2016, alleged that she too was harassed for dowry by Nikki’s father, Bhikhari Singh, and brother Rohit. Speaking to the media, she claimed that her father had already provided a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and 31 tola gold during the marriage, but Nikki’s family later demanded a Scorpio SUV.
She further accused Nikki and her elder sister Kanchan of physically assaulting her, adding that her mother-in-law and father-in-law also targeted her. Meenakshi claimed that Rohit assaulted her on multiple occasions and even fired a shot at her brother. She alleged she was forced to undergo two abortions.
While Nikki’s family has consistently accused Vipin and his relatives of torturing Nikki for dowry, Meenakshi defended them, saying, “They are not like that at all; they are a well-off family.”
Police and Families Respond
Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar dismissed Meenakshi’s allegations, stating that no such evidence or FIR has been found in records so far. He urged complainants to approach the police directly rather than make claims in the media.
Meanwhile, Vipin’s relatives have demanded a fair probe, pointing to videos that allegedly show Nikki’s family mistreating their daughter-in-law.
Nikki’s father, Bhikhari Singh, has strongly refuted Meenakshi’s claims, insisting that his son never assaulted her and that he has evidence to prove their innocence.
The Murder Case So Far
Nikki, in her mid-20s, died after being set on fire at her home in Sirsa on August 21. Her six-year-old son told police that his mother was beaten, doused in a flammable liquid, and then set ablaze.
Disturbing videos of Nikki’s final moments, reportedly filmed by her sister Kanchan, have been circulating online. Vipin, his parents Satveer and Daya, and his brother Rohit have been arrested. Vipin was also injured in a police encounter while allegedly trying to escape custody.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has demanded a time-bound investigation, strict action against the accused, and protection for Nikki’s family and witnesses.
Call for Justice
Nikki’s father has demanded the harshest punishment for Vipin, even calling for the demolition of his house. He has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure justice for his daughter.
Police have registered an FIR under charges of murder and related offences and are examining hospital records, CCTV footage, and witness statements to piece together the full sequence of events.
