FNG Expressway to Ease Travel Between Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad — Travel Time to Reduce by 40 Minutes

Work to Resume on Long-Pending FNG Expressway
The Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway project, pending for over two decades, is set to resume with renewed coordination between Noida Authority and Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA). Once completed, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time between the three major NCR cities by up to 40 minutes.

New Bridge to Connect Noida and Faridabad
As part of the revived plan, a 600-meter-long bridge will be constructed over the Yamuna River, connecting Mangroli village in Noida to Lalpur in Faridabad. Both states have agreed to equally share the bridge’s construction cost of approximately ₹200 crore. Approach roads on either side will be built separately by the respective authorities.

Elevated Road and Expansion Plans

  • A 650-meter elevated loop will connect Chijarsi (Noida) to Ghaziabad via NH-9.
  • Another elevated stretch of 5.65 km is proposed at the 14.610 km mark, ensuring minimal disruption to the local population.
  • Around 70% of the 17 km stretch of the expressway has already been completed.

Strategic Route and Connectivity
The 23-kilometer expressway will begin at Chijarsi, pass through Bahlolpur, Sector 112, Sector 140, Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, and Sector 168, finally reaching Lalpur village in Faridabad. It will also feature an underpass at the DSC Road and connect to NH-24 in Ghaziabad.

Benefits of the FNG Expressway

  • Will eliminate the need to travel via Delhi for commuters between Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
  • Provides a new route to Gurugram from Noida and Ghaziabad.
  • Will reduce traffic load on Kalindi Kunj and Noida Master Plan roads.
  • Acts as a lifeline for Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Faridabad regions.

Revival After Decades of Delay
Originally proposed in 1989 to ease inter-city NCR traffic and prevent congestion in Delhi, the project was delayed due to lack of coordination and unresolved funding—especially concerning the Yamuna bridge. However, after a crucial meeting in January 2023 with then Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, the project received a fresh push to reduce road pressure and accelerate completion.

Expected Timeline
Authorities have indicated that full-scale work on the FNG Expressway is expected to commence by the end of this year, bringing long-awaited relief to commuters across NCR.
