Diljit Dosanjh Earns International Emmy Nomination for ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has secured a nomination at the International Emmy Awards 2025 in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his portrayal of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s acclaimed biopic. The film itself has also been nominated in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category, making it the sole Indian entry at this year’s awards.

Produced by Window Seat Films and streaming on Netflix, Amar Singh Chamkila chronicles the life and tragic death of the titular singer, who was shot along with his wife Amarjot in 1988. Dosanjh’s performance has been widely praised for bringing the legendary singer’s persona and turbulent life to the screen, while Parineeti Chopra plays his wife, Amarjot.

In the Best Actor category, Dosanjh will compete against David Mitchell (Ludwig, UK), Oriol Pla (Yo, adicto, Spain), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude, Colombia). The film will contest the TV Movie/Mini-Series award alongside Herrhausen: The Banker and the Bomb (Germany), Lost Boys & Fairies (UK), and Vencer o Morir (Chile).

The 53rd International Emmy Awards gala is scheduled to be held in New York City on November 24, where winners across 16 categories will be announced. According to the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, this year features 64 nominees from a record 26 countries, highlighting the global strength and creativity of the television industry.

Bruce L. Paisner, President and CEO of the Academy, said,

“As the International Emmys continue to recognize the very best in television, the creativity and calibre of this year’s nominees reflect the global strength of our industry. New York City will once again serve as the global stage this November, where we will honor their remarkable achievements.”

This nomination marks a significant milestone for Dosanjh and Indian cinema on the international stage, further establishing the global appeal of regional storytelling.
