New Budget Unveiled by CM Rekha Gupta
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday. This marks the first budget of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi after 27 years. The budget emphasizes infrastructure, social welfare, and urban development.
Key Allocations in the Budget
- Water and Sanitation: ₹9,000 crore has been allocated to improve water supply and sanitation services across the city.
- Women’s Welfare: The government has introduced the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana with an allocation of ₹5,100 crore, under which eligible women will receive ₹2,500 per month to enhance their financial stability.
- Healthcare: ₹2,144 crore has been set aside for the Ayushman Bharat scheme to strengthen healthcare facilities.
- Infrastructure Development: ₹28,000 crore has been allocated for roads, sewer systems, and water supply improvements.
- Education: ₹750 crore is earmarked for distributing free laptops to 1,200 students who pass Class X, ₹100 crore for setting up 175 computer labs, and ₹100 crore for smart classes in government schools.
- Yamuna River Cleanup: ₹500 crore has been allocated for cleaning the Yamuna River by ensuring only treated water enters the river through decentralized sewage treatment plants.
- Transport Connectivity: ₹1,000 crore is dedicated to enhancing Delhi-NCR connectivity.
- Atal Canteens: The government plans to introduce ‘Atal Canteens’ to provide affordable meals to the underprivileged.
