Charlie Kirk Shot Dead During Event at Utah Valley University

Conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was shot dead on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, while addressing students and supporters at Utah Valley University. He was 31.

The incident occurred around 20 minutes into Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour” event, which followed his signature “Prove Me Wrong” format where he took questions from the audience. Eyewitnesses said Kirk was responding to a query when a sudden gunshot rang out, striking him in the neck. Security personnel immediately rushed him off stage and transported him to a local hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fatal shot was fired from a rooftop of a nearby university building, approximately 200 yards away from the event venue. Law enforcement officials confirmed that multiple people were initially detained for questioning, but they were later released after being cleared of involvement. A multi-agency probe involving the FBI, ATF, and local police is underway to track down the shooter, who remains at large.

The shocking assassination has rattled the political landscape in the United States. Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the incident, describing it as a “political assassination” and vowing that authorities would bring those responsible to justice. National leaders across party lines have also condemned the attack, urging Americans to reject political violence and maintain democratic dialogue.

The event, which drew nearly 3,000 attendees, ended abruptly as police evacuated the venue and secured the surrounding area. Screenshots and footage circulating online show panicked students rushing out of the auditorium as security forces responded. Officials have urged the public not to spread misinformation as the investigation continues.

Charlie Kirk, a polarizing figure in American politics, co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 at the age of 18 and quickly became a leading conservative voice, often addressing college campuses across the country. Over the years, he built a loyal following among young conservatives, while also drawing criticism from opponents for his outspoken positions on social and political issues.

As tributes pour in from supporters, critics, and political leaders alike, Kirk’s killing has raised urgent questions about political violence, campus security, and the safety of public figures in an increasingly polarized climate. Authorities have assured the public that all resources are being mobilized to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
