Popular Assamese actor Nandini Kashyap, known for her role in the recent hit film Rudra, has been arrested in connection with a tragic hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old student in Guwahati. The incident took place in the Dakhingaon area around 3 AM on July 25, when a speeding Scorpio SUV, allegedly driven by Kashyap, ran over Samiul Haque, a student of Nalbari Polytechnic. CCTV footage from the area confirmed the vehicle’s involvement. Eyewitnesses reported that the actor did not stop to help and immediately fled the scene.
Samiul, who also worked part-time with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to support his education, was returning from a light installation project when he was struck. He suffered severe head injuries, multiple fractures, and was admitted to the ICU. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away late Tuesday evening. Soon after the accident, Haque’s coworkers chased the vehicle and later traced it to an apartment complex in Kahilipara, where the SUV was found. Videos of the confrontation with Kashyap at the location have since gone viral.
Initially questioned by the police under bailable charges, Kashyap had denied involvement. However, with the victim’s death, the case was upgraded to include non-bailable charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. “We have now arrested actor Nandini Kashyap. She will be produced before a local court,” said DCP Jayanta Sarathi Borah, Guwahati Police.
Samiul came from a financially weak background. His family alleges that while Kashyap had initially promised to support his medical treatment, she never followed through.
