A young man from Assam’s Cachar district has reportedly gone missing after a disturbing incident aboard an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata. The man, identified as Hossain Ahmed Mazumdar, was allegedly slapped by a co-passenger while experiencing a panic attack mid-air. He has not been seen or heard from since. Mazumdar, a gym trainer based in Mumbai, was travelling home to Katigorah in Assam and was scheduled to take a connecting flight from Kolkata to Silchar. However, he never boarded the second flight, and his family has since reported him missing.
Panic Attack and Mid-Flight Assault Caught on Camera
The incident occurred during an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata, where Mazumdar reportedly suffered a panic attack. He was being assisted by the cabin crew when a fellow passenger unexpectedly slapped him. The assault was recorded by another passenger and has since gone viral on social media.
The video shows Mazumdar appearing distressed as he is escorted by the crew to his seat. Without warning, another passenger strikes him in full view of others, prompting shock and protest from nearby travellers and crew members.
Family in Distress, Phone Unreachable
Mazumdar’s family, waiting for him at Silchar airport, became alarmed when he failed to arrive. His phone remains unreachable and is believed to have been left behind in Mumbai.
“We have contacted the authorities and even visited the Udharband police station near Silchar airport, but we have no idea where he is,” said Zubairul Islam Mazumdar, a relative. “His father, who is battling cancer, is devastated. Hossain was coming home to support us. Now, he has vanished.” The family has appealed for a thorough investigation and urged authorities to release any CCTV footage from Kolkata airport that could help trace his movements after landing.
IndiGo Responds to Viral Incident
In a statement posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), IndiGo confirmed the mid-air altercation: “We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation on board one of our flights. Such unruly behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we strongly condemn any actions that compromise the safety and dignity of our passengers and crew.”
The airline stated that the individual who committed the assault was identified as unruly and handed over to security authorities upon arrival in Kolkata. It further noted that all relevant regulatory agencies had been informed, and that their crew followed standard operating procedures.
