A shocking incident unfolded at the Bhuni toll plaza in Sarurpur area of Meerut, where an Indian Army jawan was brutally assaulted by toll workers. The incident, which was captured on video and quickly went viral, has led to the arrest of six people so far, police confirmed on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Kapil Singh, 26, a soldier of the Rajput Regiment from Gotka village. Singh was on his way to Delhi airport to catch an early morning flight to rejoin duty in Srinagar after leave during the Kanwar Yatra. Around midnight, he reportedly requested toll employees to let him pass quickly, showing his Army ID, as he was in a rush to catch a 5 am flight.
An argument broke out, escalating into a violent altercation in which the jawan was thrashed by toll workers. The disturbing video of the assault spread rapidly on social media, drawing widespread outrage.
Meerut district police chief Vipin Tanda said, “We received a video last night showing a man being beaten up. On investigation, it was found that the victim is an Army jawan. Considering the seriousness of the case, a case was registered and six people have been arrested.”
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed that CCTV footage is being examined to identify the remaining accused, and efforts are underway to nab them.
The incident has sparked anger among locals and ex-servicemen groups, who have demanded strict action against those involved.
