Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Gets Approval

A new Vande Bharat sleeper train between Bengaluru and Mumbai has been approved by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, aiming to improve long-distance travel between the two major cities.

The train will run between KSR Bengaluru Railway Station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).

The approval was shared in a letter dated April 5, 2026, sent by the minister to BJP MP PC Mohan. In the letter, the minister confirmed that the new sleeper service has been cleared for public convenience.

This new train is expected to offer better comfort, modern facilities, and faster travel time, making overnight journeys between Bengaluru and Mumbai more convenient for passengers.

The move is part of the government’s larger plan to expand Vande Bharat services. Officials aim to introduce 12 new sleeper trains by December 2026 to strengthen long-distance rail connectivity across India.

The Vande Bharat trains, first launched in 2019 on the New Delhi–Varanasi route, have seen strong demand. So far, they have carried over 9 crore passengers across more than one lakh trips.

The recently introduced Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat sleeper train also saw very high demand, with over 100% occupancy in its initial runs, showing growing interest in premium overnight train services.

Railway officials said the Bengaluru–Mumbai route is one of the busiest in the country, and the new sleeper train will help meet rising passenger demand while offering a more comfortable and faster travel option.
