Ropeway Trolley Falls Near Temple in Chhattisgarh, 1 Life Lost, 6 Injured

A tragic accident occurred in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district on Sunday after a ropeway trolley carrying devotees crashed while descending from a hilltop temple, resulting in one person losing their life and six others sustaining injuries.

The incident took place around 10 am near Khallari in Bhimkhoj village, according to officials. The trolley, which was returning from the Khallari Mata Temple, reportedly fell after its cable snapped, plunging from a height of approximately 200–300 feet.

The deceased has been identified as Ayushi Satkar (28), a resident of Raipur. Among the injured are her husband Rishabh Dhavre, a minor relative, and four other devotees, including two children.

All injured persons were initially taken to a nearby hospital, with four later referred to Raipur for advanced treatment.

The ropeway service is commonly used by pilgrims visiting the temple, which is situated at an elevation of around 1,100 feet. Devotees can also access the shrine by climbing nearly 900 steps. The victims had visited the temple during the ongoing Navratri festival.

Following the accident, another trolley carrying around 10 passengers was immediately brought back to safety. While passengers experienced a strong jolt, no serious injuries were reported in that trolley.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed grief over the incident, calling it extremely tragic. He extended condolences to the affected family and directed authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident, and officials stated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
