A bizarre incident at a university in Bhopal has sparked outrage after students alleged that a lizard was found in canteen food, only for a staff member to dismiss the claim by eating the suspected piece and calling it “capsicum.”
The incident reportedly took place on March 18 at the canteen of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV). Students claimed they noticed something unusual in a vegetable dish while eating and suspected it to be a dead lizard. They immediately informed the canteen staff.
According to students, the situation escalated when a staff member picked up the object and ate it in front of them, insisting that it was capsicum and not a lizard. The act, meant to dismiss the concern, instead triggered confusion and anger among those present.
The incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, drawing strong reactions. However, the claims in the video have not been independently verified.
Following the backlash, the university administration stepped in and constituted a committee to investigate the matter. Officials said the exact nature of the object and the circumstances surrounding the incident will be examined.
RGPV Director Sudhir Bhadoria stated that student health and safety remain a top priority and assured that strict action would be taken if any negligence is found.
Meanwhile, the canteen operator has denied all allegations, maintaining that the item in question was indeed capsicum.
The incident has once again raised concerns over food safety and hygiene standards in institutional canteens, with students demanding accountability and stricter checks.
