The India Post has launched a guaranteed next-day delivery service across six major cities—New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad—marking a significant upgrade in its delivery services.
The initiative was rolled out by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia at an event held in New Delhi. Under Phase 1, three new services have been introduced: 24-hour Speed Post (documents), 24-hour Speed Post parcel delivery, and 48-hour Speed Post.
Pricing for the 24-hour Speed Post service for documents starts at ₹38 for local deliveries up to 50 grams. For longer distances exceeding 2,000 km and higher weights (251–500 grams), the cost can go up to ₹186. Meanwhile, parcel delivery charges begin at ₹200 for consignments up to 500 grams and go up to ₹990 for packages weighing between 4.5 to 5 kg.
The government has also announced that under Phase 2, these services will be expanded to more cities by the end of September, with plans for an international rollout by March 2027.
Calling it a landmark moment, the minister highlighted that the move is part of a broader strategy to transform India Post into a major logistics and fulfillment partner for leading e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and Shiprocket.
Currently, parcels contribute only about 5% to India Post’s business. However, with a reported 44% increase in parcel volumes over the past 11 months, the department aims to significantly expand its role in India’s rapidly growing e-commerce sector.
Officials noted that the e-commerce market, currently valued at around ₹11 lakh crore, is expected to grow to ₹30 lakh crore by 2030, creating a strong demand for reliable logistics and delivery services, especially in smaller cities and rural areas.
To enhance customer experience, India Post has introduced several additional features, including dedicated processing windows, delivery on Sundays and holidays, specialised packaging, OTP-based secure delivery, end-to-end tracking, priority air transmission, and real-time tracking updates.
Importantly, the department has assured customers of a money-back guarantee if deliveries are not completed within the promised 24 or 48-hour timeframe.
Emphasising the reach and reliability of postal services, the minister said that India Post continues to serve even in the most challenging conditions, from remote areas to disaster-hit regions, reinforcing its role as a critical part of the country’s communication and logistics network.
