PM Modi To Unveil ‘Ayush Mark’ As India Pushes Global Standards For Traditional Medicine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the Ayush Mark, a new global benchmark aimed at standardising the quality of traditional medicine products and services, during the closing ceremony of the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine on Friday. The initiative marks a major step in India’s effort to position itself as a global leader in scientifically validated traditional healthcare systems.

The summit, jointly organised by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Ayush, has been underway at Bharat Mandapam from December 17 to 19 under the theme “Restoring Balance: The Science and Practice of Health and Well-Being.” The event brought together global policymakers, researchers, industry experts, and traditional medicine practitioners for high-level discussions on strengthening evidence-based and sustainable health systems worldwide.

During the ceremony, PM Modi will also felicitate recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga for the years 2021–2025. The awards recognise individuals and organisations that have played a vital role in expanding the reach and scientific credibility of yoga worldwide.

In keeping with his emphasis on integrating traditional medicine with modern research frameworks, the prime minister will launch a series of major Ayush-sector initiatives. These include the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal (MAISP), a comprehensive digital platform designed to streamline information and services across the Ayush ecosystem.

Modi will also release the WHO technical report on yoga training, marking another milestone in the global recognition of yoga’s therapeutic value. Additionally, he will unveil the book “From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush,” highlighting the sector’s rapid evolution under India’s leadership.

A commemorative postal stamp on Ashwagandha, symbolising the herb’s global acceptance and India’s longstanding medicinal heritage, will also be released.

PM Modi is expected to visit the Traditional Medicine Discovery Space, an exhibition showcasing the breadth and relevance of traditional medicine knowledge from India and other cultures around the world.

As the summit concludes, experts note that the Ayush Mark could pave the way for internationally harmonised quality standards, boosting global confidence in India’s traditional medicine systems and opening new avenues for research, trade, and healthcare innovation.
