Major Bus Accident in Tamil Nadu’s Tenkasi Leaves Several Injured

Six persons lost their lives and 28 were injured in a head-on collision involving two private buses in Tamil Nadu’s Tenkasi district on Monday.

According to police, one private bus travelling from Madurai to Senkottai and another heading from Tenkasi towards Kovilpatti collided, leaving both vehicles heavily damaged. Local authorities and firefighters carried out an extensive rescue operation at the scene.

A senior police officer told NDTV that initial findings indicate the Keysar bus travelling from Madurai to Senkottai may have been driven recklessly. Officials said investigators suspect speeding and negligent driving contributed to the incident.

All 28 injured passengers are undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals. Health officials said the condition of several individuals is serious and the number of severe cases may increase.

Police have opened a detailed investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage along with eyewitness statements.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his concern regarding the tragic incident and directed the district collector to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the unfortunate bus accident in Tenkasi Kadayanallur. I have instructed the District Collector to visit the government hospital and make sure all affected individuals receive high-quality treatment. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the families facing this difficult time. The government stands with those injured and wishes them a swift recovery,” he shared in a post on X.
