A series of bomb threat emails targeting the Delhi Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), and University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) triggered massive security checks and evacuations in the capital on Tuesday.
According to Delhi Police, the threat mail mentioned possible detonations at all three locations. Bomb Detection and Disposal Teams (BDDT) were immediately deployed, supported by the Delhi Fire Service, which dispatched multiple tenders as a precautionary measure. Senior officers, including Additional DCP (Central), ACP Kamla Market, and SHO IP Estate, supervised the anti-sabotage checks at the Secretariat, while similar operations were carried out at MAMC under the supervision of traffic police officials.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said appropriate measures were taken to secure both sites. “There is no cause for panic. We are following all SOPs, and the safety of people remains our top priority,” he said.
The UCMS administration also issued an urgent notice informing students and staff of the threat, ordering immediate evacuation of the college building and suspension of classes for the day. Police sources confirmed that a call was received at GTB Enclave Police Station around 11:30 am, after which bomb squads, dog squads, and fire brigade teams were rushed to the campus. Entry and exit points were sealed as teams conducted intensive checks for suspicious objects.
Investigators from the Cyber Police Station are examining the origin of the email, with preliminary findings suggesting similarities to earlier hoax threats. Officials hinted that the message may even have been intended for a location outside Delhi.
Despite the possibility of it being a false alarm, authorities stressed that such threats cannot be taken lightly. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), traffic police, and the Special Cell have been roped in as part of a coordinated response effort.
As of late Tuesday evening, search operations were still underway at all three sites.
