India to Bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has cleared the proposal to submit India’s official bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The approval includes signing the Host Collaboration Agreement and extending financial assistance to the Gujarat government if India secures the hosting rights.

If successful, the Games are expected to generate significant employment across diverse fields such as sports science, event management, logistics and transport, broadcasting, IT, communications, and public relations.

According to a release by the Press Information Bureau, hosting the Commonwealth Games would not only boost tourism and job creation but also inspire young athletes across the country.

“Beyond sports, the CWG will strengthen national pride, create a shared sense of unity, and motivate millions of youth to pursue sports as a career,” the statement read.

By positioning Ahmedabad as the host city, India aims to showcase its growing global stature in sports infrastructure and event management, while leaving behind a long-term legacy of enhanced participation in sports at all levels.
