Security forces in Jammu captured a pigeon carrying a threat letter warning of plans to blow up the Jammu railway station, officials confirmed.
The bird was intercepted in the Katmaria area of RS Pura, along the International Border, around 9 pm on August 18. A chit tied to its claws contained a message written in both Urdu and English, threatening to carry out an IED blast at the railway station. The note also included phrases such as “Kashmir Freedom” and “time has come.”
This is the first time a pigeon has been caught with such a threat message in the region. In previous years, security agencies have intercepted balloons, flags, and even pigeons carrying messages near the border, officials noted.
Following the incident, security was tightened across Jammu, particularly around the railway station and adjoining tracks. Dog squads, bomb disposal teams, and additional police personnel were deployed, while authorities placed local forces on high alert.
Experts believe the pigeon may have been specially trained and released from across the border. “Such threats, whether mischief or a planned conspiracy, have to be taken very seriously,” a senior security analyst said.
An investigation has been launched to determine the source and intent behind the message.
