Indian Army Receives First Batch of Apache Helicopters from U.S.

In a significant step towards modernizing its fleet, the Indian Army has received its first batch of advanced Apache AH-64E attack helicopters from the United States. The helicopters arrived on July 22, 2025, at the Hindon Airbase.

According to officials, three Apache helicopters were delivered in this first batch. They will be stationed in Jodhpur with the Army Aviation Corps to strengthen India’s combat readiness along the western border.

Before deployment, the helicopters will undergo a Joint Receipt Inspection in Jodhpur to ensure all systems meet operational standards. Once cleared, the aircraft will be ready for immediate deployment.

These state-of-the-art helicopters are expected to enhance the Army’s combat capabilities significantly. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier held discussions with U.S. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, where both sides agreed to deepen defence cooperation, including the timely delivery of such platforms.

While the original delivery was scheduled for May 2024, it was delayed due to supply chain disruptions. Two more Apache helicopters are expected to arrive within the next two weeks, and a second batch of three will follow by November 2025.

The Indian Army signed a $600 million deal with the U.S. in 2020 to procure six Apache helicopters for Army Aviation.
