3 Dead, 22 Injured as Drunk Driver Crashes SUV into Ganpati Procession in Chhattisgarh

A tragic accident took place in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district on Tuesday night when an SUV, driven by a man reportedly under the influence of alcohol, crashed into a Ganpati festival procession. The accident killed three people and injured 22 others.

The incident happened in Jurudand village on the Bagicha-Jashpur road, where over 100 people were taking part in the idol immersion procession. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh, the SUV suddenly rammed into the crowd, causing panic and serious injuries.

The victims who lost their lives have been identified as Vipin Prajapati (17), Arvind Kerketta (19), and Khirovati Yadav (32). Among the injured, some were critically hurt and were taken to Ambikapur Medical College in the nearby Surguja district. Others received treatment at a local community health centre.

The driver, Sukhsagar Vaishnav (40), has been arrested. Police said he was drunk at the time of the crash. The vehicle has been seized, and a case has been filed. The authorities are investigating the accident to find out exactly how it happened.

This sad incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about safety during festivals. Police have reminded people to be careful on the roads and avoid driving under the influence, especially during public gatherings and celebrations.
